S1 Fit Guide
A better fit starts with the right shell, the right liner setup and a correctly adjusted strap.
Wearing your helmet correctly is one of the simplest ways to improve comfort and confidence while you ride. Whether you are skateboarding, riding BMX, using a scooter or heading to roller derby, your S1 helmet should sit level, feel snug and stay stable when you move.
The right fit starts before you adjust the straps. Measure your head, choose the right shell range, then use the liner system and straps to fine-tune the fit.
Did you know there is a wrong way to wear a helmet?
A helmet worn too high, too loose or tilted back cannot provide the stable, comfortable fit you are aiming for. Use the checks below before every session.
Use a soft measuring tape, or a piece of string and a ruler, to measure around the widest part of your head. Start across the middle of your forehead, just above your eyebrows, then pass the tape above your ears and around the back of your head.
Take the measurement more than once so you have a consistent starting point. Do not rely on your usual hat size or assume that the size you wear in another brand will be the same in an S1 helmet.
For more help, use the S1 helmet sizing guide before you order.
The S1 Lifer fit system uses three core shell ranges:
The 20.5 and 23.5 inch boundaries overlap, so take care when choosing between shell ranges. If you are unsure, contact the S1 Helmets Australia team with your head measurement and the model you are considering.
Other S1 models, including visor, full-face and E-certified options, can have different product details. Always check the individual product page for the current size options, intended use and certification information that applies to that model. You can compare the range in the complete S1 helmet buying guide.
Place the helmet on your head so it sits level rather than tilted backwards or pushed too far forward. The front should sit low enough to cover your forehead without blocking your vision.
Look in a mirror or ask someone to check the position from the side. The helmet should sit parallel to the ground and should not expose a large area of your forehead. If it rocks backwards, forwards or from side to side, stop and adjust the fit before riding.

Once you have the correct shell range, use the interchangeable sizing liners to adjust the fit. The aim is a comfortable, even contact around your head without obvious pressure points.
If the helmet feels loose or moves when you gently shake your head, check the liner setup and shell choice. If it feels uncomfortably tight or creates pressure in one spot, reassess the liner combination and positioning.
A liner kit can be useful when your measurement sits between sizes. If you need help working out which combination to use, contact S1 support before ordering.
Fasten the chin strap every time you ride. The strap should sit comfortably under your chin and hold the helmet in position without causing discomfort.
Check the strap position again after moving the helmet or changing the liner setup.
Before each session, use this quick check:
If the helmet shifts independently of your head, do not ride until you have corrected the fit. Recheck your measurement, shell range, liner setup and strap adjustment.
Certification and intended use can vary between helmet models. The product page for the helmet you are considering is the correct place to confirm the current information.
For a plain-language overview, read the S1 helmet certification guide in Australia. If you are choosing between skate, bike, e-bike, scooter, BMX or full-face options, the S1 helmets range can help you find the relevant category.
Your helmet should feel snug and stable without causing painful pressure. It should not rock from side to side or move independently of your head when you gently shake it.
Start with the detailed sizing information and consider the larger shell range with the appropriate liner setup. If you are still unsure, contact S1 support with your head measurement and the product you are considering.
The basic fit principles apply across the range, but size options, certification and intended use can vary by model. Check the individual product page before buying or riding.
Check your liners regularly and replace them when they are worn, damaged or no longer provide a comfortable, stable fit. Keep the helmet and liners clean and dry, and contact support if you are unsure about their condition.
Measure your head, choose the right S1 shell range and take a few minutes to adjust the liners and straps. A careful fit check makes it easier to ride comfortably and choose the right product for your needs.
